Namaste!

Photobucket

Welcome, one and all!

This is a public fic journal and, as of current, is unflagged because lurkers are always welcome. Although we don't bite here! Well, not in the unfun way.

Feel free to friend me, although please don't get offended if I don't friend you back. (I have enough trouble keeping up with my f-list as it is!) All fic is posted publicly, and that's what you're all here for, right?

Many stories here are NSFW and contain romantic pairings of various make-ups. Don't like what the heading says? Don't read it! It'll save all of us a lot of heartbreak in the long run.

The Master List of DOOM is in the sidebar. Have at it and beware of crossovers.

Concrit, thought-provoking comments, and plotbunnies are always welcome. Although I might try to fight off that last one. Play nice with the other children and let's have fun!

♥, Gracie

The LJ blog everyone's linking to.

Because I saw this on [info]annemjw's Twitter, but she retweeted from [info]copperbadge. Copypasta from [info]sirriamnis, who copypastaed from the original article.

http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=325508

"From the Daily Herald:

Telling her mother that she wanted to come to the aid of a library under attack, 11-year-old Sydney Sabbagha stood at the podium before the Oak Brook village board. "I used to go to the library knowing there were people there to help me find a book. Now there is no one to help me," Sydney said solemnly. "It will never be the same without the people you fired." Sydney nestled back into her seat, but that didn't stop 69-year-old criminal attorney Constantine "Connie" Xinos from boldly putting her in her place.

"Those who come up here with tears in their eyes talking about the library, put your money where your mouth is," Xinos shot back. He told Sydney and others who spoke against the layoffs of the three full-time staffers (including the head librarian and children's librarian) and two part-timers to stop "whining" and raise the money themselves.

"I don't care that you guys miss the librarian, and she was nice, and she helped you find books," Xinos told them.

"Don't cry crocodile tears about people who are making $100,000 a year wiping tables and putting the books back on the shelves," Xinos smirked, apparently referencing the fired head librarian, who has advanced degrees and made $98,676 a year. He said Oak Brook had to "stop indulging people in their hobbies" and "their little, personal, private wants."

Sydney was upset and "her little friend was in tears" after Xinos spoke at the meeting last week, says mom Hope Sabbagha.

"I wanted that kid to lose sleep that night," a grinning Xinos says Wednesday, as he invites me for a nearly two-hour interview in his Mercedes-Benz in the gated Oak Brook community where he lives. "This is the real world and the lesson, you folks who brought your kids here, is if you want something, pay for it."

If you read the entire article, you get to see what a class act Xinos is.

Let's show him how classy we are.

I have been so so awfully horribly bad about posting and comments lately. I'm so sorry! *begs for forgiveness* Real life just ambushed me and now my email inbox looks a wreck.

But anyway, I have the fantastic, amazing results for the Support Stacie Auction!

Merlin 2,500 word min fic lot
Winner -- [info]teachwriteslash with $26
Runner Up -- [info]snitchdreamer with $25

Doctor Who 2,500 min word fic lot
Winner -- [info]wiggiemomsi with $50

Torchwood 2,500 min word fic lot
Winner -- [info]snitchdreamer with $40
Runner Up -- [info]yamx with $30

Which means, all told, I drew in $171 dollars. Which is so much more than I ever thought I'd draw in! I also have a slew of incentive drabbles to finish. However, since I've got life and I'm sure you all want to read the fics now, I'm going to post them individually, including the drabbles.

Thanks to everyone who bid, checked out the lots and cheered from the sidelines.

That's right, TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT!

Now, I've talked about it before, but here's a quick recap:

The auction is to raise money for Stacie Holeman, to help her cover medical bills from battling both breast and ovarian cancer because she's uninsured. You can learn more about the Support Stacie campaign here at the main web site, on Myspace, here on LJ ([info]supportstacie), and if you're Twitter inclined you can follow @SupportStacie.

The auction is currently mulitfandom -- you can find the list of authors and fandoms here, or feel free to check out the offers avaliable.

The auction starts TONIGHT AT 11:59 CDT. Because of Daylight Savings Time, that is UTC/GMT -5.

There are some really great authors signed up for this (myself excluded, of course), so seriously, go take a look.

One Doctor Who 2,500 word minimum fic.
One Torchwood 2,500 word minimum fic.

And as an added incentive, I'm offering one 100 word drabble for all bids of $10 or more. In any fandom I'm into.

I will also be writing a 1,000 word minimum ficlet for the second-place bidders if they donate their final bid offer to the auction.

Auctions open tonight, 11:59 PM CDT. The Whoniverse bidding closes at 8 PM CDT, while the Merlin lot closes at 10 PM CDT.

Anyway, this is specifically for [info]gingerlr, who was in sore need of something sweet and fluffy, so I thought I'd give her -- and you -- a treat. Don't get used to these little side stories, Donna was in the mood to tell a story.

Different Sort of Science Icon
You all have [info]blossomlegs to thank for this. See, they left a comment in Different Sort of Science, mentioning that they were just a year behind in reading the Mageverse.

Which made me realize that OH MY GOD MAGEVERSE IS A YEAR OLD.

That's one helluva ride for a fic I initially intended to run about eight to ten chapters. The first stretch ended up being a whopping 30 chapters long, complete with accompanying podfic, a one-chapter bridge and a sequel that looks like it'll wrap up in at least 30 chapters as well.

Damn muses!

So, in honor of THE MAGEVERSE BIRTHDAY (I am such a proud Mommy!) I thought I should give you, the readers, a present. I mean, it's all because of you that this thing's so popular!

I was thinking that you'd all like a double chapter tomorrow. I mean, we all love getting more in one day, right?

But yeah... that's not quite enough, I don't think. It's a special thing. I mean, the one year birthday is a Big Deal. Ask any parent.

So I tried my hand at Photoshop... )</center>

And there it is! I hope you like them -- I sure do. *grins*

Look for fic tomorrow! Once in the afternoon my time, and once in the evening.

call in queer
Every time I post something that is not fic or otherwise fandom related, I always feel like saying, "I never do this!"

But I do more often than I admit.

So here it goes.

Also (and I always say this too) but if you don't have a hint as to how I feel about equal rights issues, you're reading the wrong journal.

I saw this on [info]ashgrove's Twitter last night, and thought it was important to share -- and then I realized that my LJ friends should share the love. It's an old video, so I'm sure quite a few of you have seen this before. It's George Takei on Jimmy Kimmel in 2007.

Now. Did Hardaway have the right to say what he did? Damn straight he did. No matter how much it pisses me off, he didn't say they should all go die. He didn't say people should take up arms against teh eval gays. He just said he hated them, which is sad but it's also life.

But I have the right to say, Tim, baby, methinks you're protesting too much, if you get what I mean, nudge nudge wink wink. And I have the right to say that I'm disappointed that a man who's a role model and hero to many people can't bother to at least, you know, even pretend to be tolerant.

Of course, the appropriate reaction to the video is "OMG ILU GEORGE." The man pulls it off just absolutely perfectly with that sort of "I know this will really piss you off!" careless attitude, and kudos to the writer/writers who came up with it. Honestly, that's the only way to really get those types of people truly upset; make light of what they have to say, (or even better, just ignore it) and be completely, utterly... happy.

That's the best revenge of all.
